Shelter House

Shelter House's mission is to provide safe shelter and help people improve the quality of their lives as they move beyond homelessness. To that end, we provide emergency shelter, eviction prevention and rapid rehousing funds, permanent supportive housing, and case management services to the most vulnerable members of the community. For 40 years, Shelter House has served as the only provider of emergency shelter to people experiencing homelessness in our community. As the community’s needs have changed, our services have changed to meet those evolving needs. Today, Shelter House operates a 70-bed emergency shelter facility, a 35-bed winter emergency shelter, a Rapid ReHousing program, an Eviction Prevention program, an Eviction Diversion program, four Lodge houses for, two apartment buildings (one 24-unit and one 36-unit building) providing affordable, permanent supportive housing using the housing first philosophy. We also provide supportive services to dozens of families in the community using Emergency and Mainstream vouchers, and we offer employment support for our neighbors seeking employment as well as outreach to community members who need assistance but do not come to shelter.
