Damascus Inn

The Damascus Inn Pre-Recovery Emergency Shelter program design is uniquely sensitive to the fact that persons who are homeless often struggle with co-occurring challenges including substance addiction, mental illness, and HIV/AIDS. Consequently these factors often render these individuals ineligible for housing and supportive service programs, which are critical to the rehabilitation process. Additionally, combining these co-occurring illnesses with a lack of family or a support network can make overcoming homelessness nearly impossible. Due to the multifaceted nature of the problems homeless and chronically homeless individuals face, MAWH implements an inclusive continuum of care program model that includes case management, supportive services, health education, HIV Testing, comprehensive referral services, transportation, support groups and life-skills training. Facilitated by MAWH’s program staff, consisting of a Case Manager, Intake Coordinator, Program Director and an Operations Manager, Damacus Inn participants have consistently proven that with supportive services and a strong network of support, they can overcome homelessness, maintain their own permanent residence, and improve their quality of life MAWH will provides shelter, case management and access to supportive services that are inclusive of a quality continuum of care to 50 homeless men, women, transgender persons, and veterans. Damascus Inn residents receives individualized needs assessments, support groups, a computer lab, resume writing classes, GED/literacy programs, case management, nutritional meals and linkages to community-based resources.
