Northlands Rescue Mission

We are an emergency shelter that has served homeless men and women since 1942. We are currently working to find funds to open a family shelter that would serve whole families, not just women and children. Thanks to the work of our social work staff, we have helped 200 people each year in the last two years to go from being homeless to housed. We have also lowered the number of clients in shelter from over 100 to an average in the 40's. In terms of food service, we provide several different services in our community. Our dining room is open to the public for lunch and dinner, and we typically serve between 50-120 meals at each of those meal times. Breakfast is only for in-house clients. We also provide late plates for clients who are unable to return for meals, and sack lunches for those who need a meal at work. We are a food pantry, and we provide food baskets on Tuesday and Thursday, and conduct a mobile food pantry once a month, in order to meet the needs of people who can't access us. We also partner with our local meals on wheels and our permanent supportive housing project for chronically homeless to make sure those clients get a food basket each month. We are also the agency in charge of the Backpack Program for Kids. We provide over 700 meals to kids each week in 6 local elementary schools. We would like to be able to serve all 2900 kids eligible for free and reduced lunch in our school district.

What we need most

For our Backpack Program, we need main meals, juice, fruit, snacks, and breakfast items that are shelf-stable and nut-free. For our dining services and food pantry, we can use bottled beverages and energy bars for sack lunches, packaged rice, beans and pasta for food boxes, and commercial size side dishes, soups, canned veggies for the dining room.
