Community Shelter of Union County

We are a private organization generously supported by our neighbors, area businesses, churches and civic groups as well as by our city, county and state governments. We moved from cramped, aging quarters in June 2019 to a new, 90-bed campus, basically tripling our size and services with the same staff. So while we have a new home, our costs for services provided requires us to raise even more money. We are a low-barrier shelter that uses a “housing first” model. Each resident gets a case manager who builds a 60-day program to stabilize income and find affordable housing. We re-house 6-10 households per month. Our case managers work for a year with clients after they move into housing, a practice that has been a major factor in keeping homelessness rare and non-recurring for about 90 percent our clients. That rate far exceeds the national and state averages.
