Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter

Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter provides housing opportunities for families in need of physical, emotional, and spiritual support as they work to return to the community as productive members. Good Neighbor provides an extensive program designed to meet the immediate need of shelter and housing and create long-term sustainability and self-reliance. For housing, GNHS runs an emergency shelter facility that operates 365 days a year, thirteen units of family transitional housing, and partnerships with a rental payment program that offers emergency rental payments to families that face the risk of homelessness. Most recently, Good Neighbor built 8 new, three-bedroom, single family homes in downtown Cartersville to expand our transitional housing program. The Good Neighbor served as the host agency for Bartow County for the Point In Time Homeless Count with DCA for the past three cycles. In the fall of 2017 we launched an outreach program for the unsheltered homeless living in our community. This outreach program shares information with clients about resources that are available, provides emergency services as needed, assists clients in receiving services from partners in the community, serves as a liaison between unsheltered individuals and our community, and ultimately helps anyone interested in becoming permanently housed. In 2020, we opened a second Emergency Shelter to house 15 single men. This shelter provides the same stability and services as our first Emergency Shelter, and brings our total bed number to 45.
